Creative ConneXions aims to provide children in Years Three, Four, Five and Six with a creative learning journey through the arts, culminating in a theatre performance and a gallery exhibition.
This year’s Creative ConneXions has been inspired by the BBC’s Ten Pieces. The world of classical music is opened up to children, providing the inspiration to develop their own creative responses to twelve fabulous pieces of music through composition, dance, art and poetry.
Each class from the Junior School will either dance or perform music which they have written or choreographed themselves. They will be required to explore various ideas, improvise solutions to problems they may encounter and then shape their movements into music or dance phases. Once the children have practised and refined their dance, they then perform to each other, to their year group and then to a wider audience in the school’s John Moore Theatre. Throughout the process the children are encouraged to comment critically on their finished dance; this requires accurate observation and analytical skills and an understanding of different styles and forms of dance.
Alongside their music and dance the children will also produce artwork and poetry which will be on show in the theatre gallery during the evening performances.
