Outward Bound

The Old Chapel is our very own Outdoor Education centre located in the Black Mountains. In addition to the Old Chapel, children have an overnight camp in the school grounds. This gives pupils an introduction to camp craft and a taste of the "real" camping that takes place in the Outward Bound club that runs in Years 5 and 6. There are also residential visits to field study and adventure centres.

Outdoor education is very much part of the school curriculum and all pupils participate in a safe but nevertheless adventurous programme. It is part of our philosophy that much can be learned by taking part in expedition and fieldwork. We aim to grow children's self esteem and self-confidence, whilst at the same time develop their ability to work as part of a team.

All children take part in our Outdoor Education programme with camping being introduced in Year 2. By Year 6 our children are able to erect their own tents and we encourage them to organise their own activities by Year 6. We also organise camping experiences in our grounds with families enjoying an overnight stay in the grounds.
