A New Term
After the fabulous weather of the Easter break, we returned to school on Tuesday raring to go. This will be a very busy term as it is quite short, given the late Easter break, and there is a great deal to achieve between now and the end of term. The Bank Holidays also make for a strange start to the term. It is good to be purposeful and we are sure the children will appreciate the many events that are taking place during the term. We hope to see you at many of our summer events and activities. Hawford in the summer is always a special place. Sports days, Grandparents Days, Speech Day and the Summer Ball, along with the Street Party this week and the May Fete next week, provide for many opportunities for families to come together and we hope that you all enjoy these occasions.
Pedestrian Training
Our Year 1 children will be involved in a pedestrian training session on Tuesday 3rd May. This is to assist the children when out and about on our streets, increasing their awareness of potential dangers and of the correct way to cross roads.
Year 1 Tudors Day
Our Year 1 will be enjoying a special day on Wednesday 4th May, when they will be learning about life in Tudor times.
House Piano Playing Competition
The first House event of the term takes place on Friday 6th May when we have our House Piano Playing Competition.
Music Awards
Congratulations to Michael Nice, who recently achieved his Grade 1 Piano certificate, and to Sam Hartshorne and Izzy Mackintosh on achieving Grade 2 with Merit. Adam Brotherwood has recently achieved his Grade 1 Saxophone with Merit.
Summer Uniform
Parents are reminded that we are now in Summer uniform. We always allow a little time for parents to change over but it would be appreciated if all children could be in Summer dress code as soon as possible. On some days we will have 'Shirt Sleeve Order'. This doesn't affect the girls but it means that boys can take off their ties and undo their shirt top button. Ties should be worn leaving school, when children are expected to be dressed in full uniform.
Camps to Start the Term
5JMB are involved in their Malvern Camp today and tomorrow to support their Geography curriculum. 5JBR will be away at Malvern next week on Tuesday 3rd May and Wednesday 4th May.
Royal Wedding Street Party
We will be holding a whole school street party tomorrow, Thursday 28th April, from 1-30p.m. The street party will be held along the roadway that runs from Kindergarten down to the Art Room, with a party tea being served and plenty of fun to be had. During the afternoon all children will be attending a Punch and Judy show. We would be pleased if children could come into school on the day dressed in red, white and blue. On the day we are also requesting that the children can bring in items for the Fete, which takes place the following week. We would be pleased to receive bottles for the tombola stall, toys, books and games. All donations will be gratefully received.
Foundation Concert
Many of our children will be involved in the Foundation Concert tomorrow, Thursday 28th April at 7-30p.m. This will take place in the Cathedral.
May Day Bank Holiday
Monday is a Bank Holiday and therefore there is no school on this day.
Hawford May Fete
We are gearing up for our May Fete next week on Thursday 5th May. This will start at 3-00p.m. with the maypole and country dancing at 3-30p.m. The Fete will feature a pig roast, plant sale, refreshments, a bottle tombola, toys and books stall, second hand uniform sale, ice creams and some inflatable fun activities. The pony rides and Pimms tent are sure to be popular too. We would be grateful to receive items for the Fete on Thursday when we host our street party. Please could cake donations reach us on Wednesday and Thursday next week. We look forward to welcoming all parents and grandparents to the Fete and hope we get at least a little of the fine weather we have enjoyed recently.
