Annual Reunion Weekend 2009

Over 250 OVs and Honorary OVs took part in this year's Annual Reunion Weekend.

The 106th reunion weekend began with the Golf Day. 30 players of mixed ages and ability competed on the course at Upper Sapey in great weather. Russ Mason had arranged prizes for every team. On the winning team were Alec Mackie (Cl 47-56), Tony Sheffer (Ca 52-57) and Robin Blakeway (H 48-55). The overall winner was Tom Shervington (Cl 75-85).

On Saturday, 100 OVs and 120 Cadets celebrated 100 years of cadets at King's. The Biennial Inspection took place culminating in a parade on the playground. At lunch, the first drum major, John Reynolds (S 34-38) with former COs Alan Stacey (Hon OV 58-91) and Stewart Davies (Hon OV 69-07) cut a celebratory cake. Seven OVs were guests of the Headmaster to mark their seventieth birthdays and 10 former members of staff joined the occasion.

On Saturday evening in College Hall, Brian Papps (Cr 40-44) was presented with the Chappel Memorial Award as the oldest OV at the Dinner.

OVs from the 1940's through to 2004 were represented and had travelled to Worcester from as far away as Hong Kong, Canada, Tanzania, Belgium, Portugal, Germany and Italy. A record 49 OVs represented the year of 1989 thanks to Kirsten Wrigley (Co 87-89). Other reunion groups were 1999, 1988, 1979, 1969 and School House OVs in their 70's.

The weekend concluded with Eucharist in Worcester Cathedral and drinks on the Monitors' Lawn with the Headmaster and his wife.
