Everest - A Long Way Down

Nick Robertson (Br 89-94) reached the summit of Everest on 19th May 2009 at 2.30 a.m UK time. At the summit he held a King's School banner given to him by John Walton.

Nick reports "It has been confirmed that I am the second Briton to have reached the top of Everest this year. The three of us beat Sir Ranulph Fiennes (his third attempt) to the top by 48hrs - all on our first attempts."

The minor celebrity status has temporarily enhanced my profile as a Risk Manager for the Lloyds Banking Group. Many of my colleagues at work were rather surprised when they opened their newspapers on the 28th March to find a picture of me in full mountaineering garb staring back at them over the top of an oxygen mask. The achievement hasn't quite sunk in yet and all the attention I'm getting still seems surreal. Steph, my very patient and understanding wife is doing a good job of bringing me back down to earth with a list of my household jobs that haven't been done during the two months I've been in Nepal."

Nick has become a patron of The Himalayan Club and was guest lecturer on 5th March 2010 with Adele Pennington, Britain's leading female mountaineer.
