University Reunions

The FDO aims to sponsor OV reunions at Universities to enable OVs to stay in touch and to help OV freshers settle in and establish contacts.

The first in the academic year 08-09 took place at Browns Restaurant in October 2008 for Bristol University and UWE,thanks to Damian Warburton (Cr 85-92), and was also attended by OVs local to the area.

The second in Nottingham in March 2009 thanks to Matthew Humphreys (Ch 00-07)  who writes:

It had been noticed in recent times that there has been a sudden influx of OV's to The University of Nottingham, so it only seemed right to have a reunion and a catch up with old school friends. On the evening, we counted amongst us that there are in fact nineteen ex-King's pupils currently studying at the University. Of that nineteen, eleven came to a reunion meal at Mooch, the Student Union bar/restaurant: Simon Insley (Physiotherapy), Stephen Poole (Medicine), Clare Tamblyn (Veterinary Medicine), who also had Josh Tomlinson 'in tail,' Matthew Humphreys (Architecture), Jack Herriot (Geography), David Webb (Geography), Rebecca Busher (Medicine), Dominic Wood (Geography & Economics) , Sam Pearman (Environmental Sciences), and Lucy Clayton (Medicine).

Before the meal a handful of us had a squash tournament, which lead to some embarrassing losses to the hands of squash pro Clare Tamblyn, who is incidentally Ladies Captain for Squash at Nottingham University. Respect was duly paid!

It was a great social, reminiscing about the old school days, the same stories being told: PCT's legendary Latin lessons, and AADG's fitness sessions in the rugby season! There was even the odd comparison drawn from our meal to School dinners! NOT!

Thanks to King's for supporting the reunion, a really enjoyable evening was had by all. Maybe another one in a couple of years time, when the new influx on OVs comes flooding to Nottingham!

The last University reunion in this academic year took place at Southampton and was organised by Steve Humphries (Ch 98-05).  See July's Connect.  /files/ovs/connect26.pdf
