Coast to Coast For Ataxia in 2010
Ian Smith (Cr 73-78) is taking on Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk partly as a Peter Pan denial reaction to turning 50 but mainly to raise money for his wife's charity, Ataxia UK.
The impact of CA is quite similar to MS - those with the condition suffer from a lack of co-ordination and mobility, poor balance, slurred speech, and a whole host of side effects which impact severely on their quality of life. More details of the disease can be found on the Ataxia UK website
Ian's entire 190 mile walk will take 13 days from Thursday, 9th to Wednesday, 22nd September 2010. The Coastal Walk runs from St Bees Head on the Irish Sea Coast to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea.
Ian has got about fifteen very good friends joining him at different stages for a couple or three days each. Guest walkers from the OV and King's community include Hon OVs Marc and Julia Roberts; Russ and Sue Mason and OVs Nick Fairlie (H 72-77), Andy Robinson (Ch 67-77), Andy Baxter (S 70-75) and Andy Townsend (H 74-78).

If you are interested in sponsoring Ian, please visit his website for more information.
