Perth Sydney Cycle in aid of The Joshua Foundation

Ov Joe Street (Br 95-06)  (aged 23, Powick) will be flying out to Australia alongside Evan Phillips (21, Swansea) on 30th August with the intention of cycling the full 3,947 kilometers (2,452 miles) between Perth andSydney in order to raise money for The Joshua Foundation, a Cardiff based charity whose focus is upon children with terminal cancers.

The reason for choosing this particular charity was due to his involvement in Mister Wales 2011, and the ties that the event holds with the foundation. After coming 2nd in the competition, Joe thought that doing something such as this would be a wonderful way to raise funds for the charity, but would also offer an unforgettable experience for whomever took part.

After suggesting the challenge to various university friends, it will now be just Joe and Swansea Magpies Aussie Rules Football team-mate Evan who will cycle over a duration of approximately 40 days, with 35 days of cycling and 5 rest days, which will involve an incredibly lengthy and tiresome ride through the Nullarbor desert along Australia's longest straight road (146.6km in distance).

Whilst Joe is a BSc Sports Science graduate and therefore a keen sports person, he admits he is not particularly in to cycling, and until recently hadn't even mounted a bike since he was 12 years old! Similarly, Evan does not class himself as much of a cyclist, but an opportunity such as this has meant that they are both now getting as much time as possible on their bikes in preparation.
