Entrance Day

Where places still exist in year groups for the forthcoming academic year it is possible to take our Entrance Assessments after February. The Reception class in 2012 is currently full, however there are still a few spaces remaining in all other year groups for September 2012. Please contact the Registrar as soon as possible should you be seeking entry to the school in September 2012 or for joining during the current academic year.

For ages 4-7

Entry to the pre-preparatory department is by a morning spent in school by arrangement.  Please contact the Registrar.

It is anticipated that in September 2013 entry to the pre-preparatory department will centre on Reception age children, although there may be a small number of Year 2 places available.  Those interested should register and arrangements may then be made for your child to visit school.

For ages 7-11

If you decide that you'd like your daughter or son to join us at St. Alban's then the next step would be to register for our Entrance Day. This will be held on Saturday 4th February 2012 and will run from 9.30am through to 2.00pm. All the teaching staff are here and we work with the children in small groups. A gentle approach is used - our aim is to discover whether they will thrive at King's. It is not a question of pass or fail, but of whether or not the academic focus will suit their needs.

Our aim is to give them an enjoyable day at school. We do some English, Maths and a short Verbal Reasoning Test with the opportunity to get to know some teachers. There is also time for play and to get to know some of the other children, breaks with a drink and snack in the morning and an early, light lunch, all helping us to spread the day out for them so that they can give of their best. There is no need for special preparation - the English and Maths will be familiar and is worked through orally with the younger children. All the tests are age standardised. There is time to practise some Verbal Reasoning questions and they soon get the hang of it, most find them fun. The experience is organised so that the children bounce out feeling that they have had a successful day. We look to offer places to those capable of working comfortably at above national average levels - the top 40 - 45% of the ability range.
