The Experience

Our youngest children love their days spent based in their new, purpose built Pre-preparatory Department which is situated next to the Junior School. An even mix of girls and boys are encouraged to learn and play together co-operatively.

The children age 4-7 are in three classes (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) each with their own Form Teacher and Teaching Assistant. Junior School staff help with teaching French, music, physical education, swimming and games and the children are gradually introduced to the facilities on the main site, making use of the swimming pool, IT suite, science laboratory and art studio as well as the extensive outdoor spaces.

Reception children enjoy "outdoor school" each afternoon and are also able to throw their classroom doors open to extend their learning into an outdoor space accommodating water and sand play.  All those in the Pre-prep enjoy the School's adventure playground and they make use of this and the extensive outdoor space available for play and learning.  They enjoy the outdoor story telling area and grow their own vegetables in the garden - the kitchen staff have used these to create meals for the children to share.  Currently they are looking forward to Willow Workshops when they will be involved in designing and building living structures that will enhance further their imaginative play.
