The Next Step

For children who have joined King's St. Alban's the 11+ transition is smooth. They, and their parents, know much of the place and its people and are already part of a close-knit community who will be moving on together.

Early in the Spring Term of Year 6 the children sit the entrance examination for King's senior school. This is a valuable experience for all and an opportunity for those most able to win scholarships. The examination is qualifying rather than competitive; the school will, for some time, have been in close discussion with the parents of any child for whom, for whatever reason, the King's senior school does not appear to be the next logical step. Each year one or two children relocate geographically or transfer elsewhere, but 95% or more stay on at King's.
