The Robert Harley Award

The Robert Harley Award has been created in memory of Robert Harley who attended King's from 1964-1971. Robert had a great passion for vintage cars and had built up an impressive collection before he very sadly passed away in 2009. Robert left a generous legacy to the Development Trust which will enable one deserving pupil each year to continue with a passion of theirs in order to help them achieve their goals.

The award will be given to one recipient every year who demonstrates enterprise, leadership and endeavour in their activities both in school and in their own personal activities.

The first pupil to receive this award is Jonny Tye who left King's in the Upper Sixth in 2011. He has been an enthusiastic and able pupil, and while he is a keen musician; regularly sounding the last post at the Remembrance Day service, his real passion is kayaking.

Jonny is currently training for the Great Britain kayaking team and has to travel both nationally and internationally incurring significant travel and equipment costs. The award will enable Jonny to continue with this training and hopefully go on to be selected for team GB.
