OVs and history of the school

David Bolland (S 32-37) Now published on the web, "Never A Dull Moment - The Life and Times of David Bolland" includes a detailed and fascinating account of the Bolland association with King's from 1888 to 1962 and beyond. It begins:

"My grandfather W.E. Bolland was Headmaster of Worcester Cathedral Grammar School (as King's was called in his days) from 1879 to 1896 and three of his sons were educated in the School, each staying for ten years - H.W.Bolland (1881-91), E.W.Bolland (1884-94) and my father, A.P.Bolland (1886-96). It was natural that as my father had so many family connections with the School, and was an enthusiastic Old Vigornian throughout his life, he hoped that his two sons would also go to King's, followed in due course by any sons they might produce (he could not have envisaged the possibility of a granddaughter going to a school which had been only for boys ever since its foundation!)"You can read the full story here.

Peter 'Ben' Brown (Hostel, 1949-1956) produced an excellent site on the Hostel for the 2003 Centenary when a large number of Hostel men and women met for cocktails in the old boarding house on College Green. A commemorative plaque was unveiled, before the party moved to College Hall for a celebration dinner - it was a great event.

For the 10th Anniversary of the ending of boarding at King's in 1999 the website now has an article on the Culture of Boarding at King's, including Peter's memoirs of boarding in Hostel in the middle of the last Century. The site has a new URL: www.hostel-centenary.webs.com/

Ellen Price, who wrote under her married name of Mrs Henry Wood, lived in Sidbury as a girl with her brothers who all attended the College School, with its school room in the monastic refectory, in the 1830s. She became famous for her novels in the 1860s, some of which depict the school her brothers knew. Michael Flowers has created a very interesting website on her.
