PSHE

PSHE comprises all aspects of King's planned provision to promote our pupils' personal and social development, including health and well-being. Citizenship gives students the knowledge, skills and understanding to play an effective role in society at local, national and international levels. It comprises the three strands:

  • Social and moral responsibility
  • Community involvement
  • Political literacy

Students need to have the self-awareness, positive self-esteem and confidence to:

  • Stay as healthy as possible
  • Keep themselves and others safe
  • Have worthwhile and fulfilling relationships
  • Respect the differences between people
  • Develop independence and responsibility
  • Play an active role as members of a democratic society
  • Make the most of their own and others' abilities

Our Citizenship Programme aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding to become informed citizens. It enables them to develop skills of enquiry and communication and also to hone their skills of participation and responsible action

We intend as a school to provide a unified framework, which embraces PSHE and Citizenship by encouraging students to accept responsibilities for their actions. They learn to appreciate the importance of spiritual values and be honest, supportive, co-operative and open in their dealings with others. The programme encourages students to think about their own health and be aware of their own sexuality; along with this they must develop a sense of self-disciline and social responsbility. Now, as in life beyond school, students will learn to respect various viewpoints, personalities and ways of living, rejecting all forms of prejudice along the way. Students are encouraged to take pride in their personal appearance and hygiene and contribute to the life of the school and the wider community.

These objectives relate to the three areas, which make up the school experience:

  • The whole school context
  • Extra-curricular activities
  • Subject areas, including designated timetable time
