Coursework
At A2 you will be required to clarify and define the problem to be investigated, and you will need to devise your own hypothesis to test. You must use some form of statistical test on the data you collect - which test you use will be up to you. Your report is also to include a synoptical element - Skill E: you must be able to draw together many of the principles, concepts and skills from as many different areas of Biology and from material that you have covered throughout the whole course.
The links below should give you a starting point.
A2
Overview
In this lab you will measure oxygen consumption during respiration as a change in gas volume in maggots by changing one factor.
Objectives
· Discuss the gas laws as they apply to the function of a respirometer
· Interpret data related to the effects of your chosen factor on cell respiration
· Explain or determine the significance of a control
· Explain the relationship between dependent and independent variables
· Calculate a rate of cell respiration by utilizing graphed data
· Design an experiment to use a respirometer to measure cellular respiration
