A-Level Maths
The Mathematics department has a long history of success at a high level. Mathematics is taught at this school in a friendly yet logical and disciplined way with the accent on understanding work as it is learnt.
There are four areas of mathematics studied in the Sixth Form at King's School administrated by OCR, MEI - Pure Mathematics, Mechanics, Statistics and Decision Mathematics. Recent exam results can be found here.
AS Level Mathematics
This comprises two Pure Mathematics components (C1 and C2) and one Applied component, either Mechanics (M1) or Statistics (S1). You will need to choose whether you prefer to study Mechanics or Statistics. Consider your other subject choices and possible university courses.
ALevel Mathematics
This comprises two more Pure Mathematics components (C3 and C4) and a second Mechanics or Statistics component (M2 or S2).
A Level Mathematics and AS Level Further Mathematics
In this course, 9 modules are taken over two years. Pupils will usually be from sets 1 and 2 in the Fifth Form. This group will study an extra Pure module (FP1) to give more depth and two extra Applied modules, meaning that Statistics, Mechanics and Decision Mathematics are all studied.
A Level Further Mathematics
This is a two year course and constitutes two of your four subject choices. It leads to two full A Levels in Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and possibly also an AS in Further Mathematics (Additional).
The tree below gives an outline of the module structure.
