A blistering week of sport

U10 Girls’ Cricket v Malvern St James

The U10s had a lovely cricket match at MSJ on Wednesday and we were impressed by some of the girls’ bowling, with Evie R, Helena C, Lottie S and Emily S all chosen to bowl a second over.

After discussion we decided that there was room for improvement in their fielding: we needed to work on our backing up when the ball is being thrown in. Well done to Helena C and Ellie B for being our best batting pair for the afternoon, with Ellie B scoring two sixes!

The score was close in the end, with MSJ on 106 and KSA on 91.

U9/8A Mixed Cricket v The Downs

Another gorgeous afternoon for the U9/8A’s fixture at The Downs saw arguably our best performance of the season. We won the toss and elected to bat first. This week, Harry and Archie opened and got us off to a great start: they both scored boundaries and also ran well between the wickets. Nell and Charlotte were in next and built upon the good work that had already been done. Both girls called and ran well and Charlotte also hit a nice pull-shot for four. Louie and Ben came next and put on a masterclass of hitting, getting five boundaries between them.  Whilst Marnie and Will had less chance to hit lots of balls, they were the only pair not to concede a wicket at all, and called and ran well. We set a big total, which proved to be unassailable. Our best bowling and fielding performance of the year saw us take the victory, conceding very few extras and taking some good wickets.

U9/8B Mixed Cricket v The Downs

The U9/8B team were extremely impressive in their fixture against The Downs on Tuesday afternoon; their behaviour was brilliant and the standard of cricket was phenomenal. Brody S won the toss for us and elected to bowl first.

Ivy got King’s St Alban’s off to a flyer, keeping a perfect line and length for both of her overs and not giving away a single extra. Special mention goes to both Albert M-H and Brody S for picking up a wicket each. With brilliant fielding from all of the team, we managed to keep the target down to 85. The objective for the team with their batting was to wait for the ball and provide clear communication when running. They did this brilliantly and as a team we scored 12 boundaries! (Emma: 4,6; Body: 4; Harry: 6,4; Ben D: 4; Edith: 4, 4; Luca: 4, 4, 6 and Albert: 6). Well done to Ben D, who received the accolade of player of the match from the opposition.

This was a really impressive all round performance from the U9/8 team!

U9/8C Mixed Cricket v The Downs

We had a wonderful afternoon over at The Downs on Tuesday; the sun was shining and the children were up for a great game of cricket. All of the children bowled overarm, which was excellent to see, and there were some balls that were very close to the wickets. Ariya and Romi both took wickets and Romi was named player of the match. When batting we were strong and attempted to run singles where we could. There were a couple of fours hit by Mark: well done to him! We won overall by a good margin.

U11/10A Boys Cricket v RGS Springfield

Worcester Cathedral was the backdrop for our U11/10 fixture against RGS Springfield. We opened the batting well, hitting some good runs and running well. Unfortunately, our batting performance deteriorated as the innings went on. Some unwise running led to a few wickets, and our score looked easily obtainable for RGS. When it was Springfield’s turn to bat, they started strong, but some fine bowling from Sam T and Francis C limited Springfield’s runs. Our fielding was tight, and the boys made some fantastic catches. It was a lovely day for cricket, and the team enjoyed a good opportunity. Well done boys.

U11/10B Boys Cricket v RGS Springfield

This week the boys’ B team hosted RGS Springfield on a glorious afternoon for a game of pairs cricket. King’s St. Alban’s won the toss and chose to field first; Jacob opened the bowling with a great over to start the match. The boys fielded very well, and highlights were Arthur and Joshua each getting a wicket and Rory bowling the best over of the match, also taking an excellent wicket. Eddie and Mortimer kindly played for the opposition, as they were short of a few players, and it was most pleasing to see them try their best while playing against their peers. They were the last batting pair and scored a very good 21 runs between them. When it was King’s turn to bat, the boys were very composed at the crease, only losing one wicket and playing some excellent shots. Jacob and Humphrey batted first and scored 13 runs, then Arthur and Charlie batted and scored a very good 26 runs between them. Henry had a fantastic first game, partnering up with Joshua, and scored four fine boundaries, resulting in a brilliant total of 34 runs in their pair. With the game looking very close at this stage, Leo and Rory came into bat last and managed to hit the winning runs, with King’s St. Alban’s winning the game by 11 runs. Well done boys!

U11A Girls’ Cricket v Malvern St James – Miss Jordan

The girls had a very enjoyable afternoon over at Malvern St James. We won the toss and elected to field first. Our bowling was very strong and we took four wickets; Emily and Lucy bowled maiden overs and MSJ found it hard to meet the pace of Erin’s bowling. There were a few extras given away and preventing that is an area some need to work on. When batting, Erin gained two fours off the first over, backed up by another three from Emily, Ace and Sienna D. We do still need to call and be ready to run, but we were able to knock off their total and won the match. Well done to Erin, who was awarded the accolade of the opposition’s bowler of the match, and Emily as batter.

Mercian Area Athletics Championships 2023

Ace and Helena competed in the Mercian Athletics Championships on Thursday on a very hot day. Ace ran in the U12 Girls’ 1500m race and came a very impressive second, with a time of 5:43.5secs. This meant she qualified for the National Prep Schools Athletics Championships 2023 on the 3rd July. Helena ran a fast 800m race in a time of 2:59.4secs, and in the long jump she produced a personal best by nearly 30cms of 3.52m.

It was a long day in the sun, but they enjoyed watching other athletes compete and playing ‘Heads-Up’ with Hawford.
