A bumper Harvest at King’s St Alban’s
On Friday morning, the whole of the King’s St Alban’s community came together, filling the Pre-Prep Hall to the rafters for our Harvest Festival celebrations.
Leading the assembly, Mrs Etherington inspired the children to think about a food rainbow, asking the children what is needed to make crops grow. There were plenty of eager volunteers keen to answer Mrs Etherington’s question and some very knowledgeable answers were shared. Moving on, the congregation reflected upon the countries where the weather and climate change has meant that crops sometimes fail. They thought about children of similar ages to themselves who do not have enough food and are always hungry. The children concluded that this would be horrible and that they are extremely lucky not to be in such a position, having delicious and plentiful meals served to them daily both at home and in school. Again, the children were very enthusiastic, with lots of hands up keen to share their thoughts, ideas and knowledge.
Over the past few weeks, pupils from Reception to Year 6 have been learning a new harvest hymn, Care for Our World, which they sang beautifully to conclude the lovely community assembly. The most memorable line of the hymn was, “the world is a garden to share”, which many of our pupils took with them as they left the Pre-Prep Hall to continue their school day.
Pupils (and their parents) have throughout this week been making extremely generous donations, which have brightened up the School Office as well as the Pre-Prep entrance hall. Donations included everything from bags of pasta, cans of food, toothbrushes and breakfast cereals as well as some fresh produce collected by Year 3 on their trip to Lower Smite Farm earlier in the week. All donations will now be given to the Worcester Foodbank. Thank you to all those who have donated your support is much appreciated.
