King's Hawford

28 September

A colourful European Day of Languages.

With languages a central feature of the curriculum at King’s Hawford, the pupils and staff alike relished the opportunity to embrace a number of different languages as part of the European Day of Languages. European Day of Languages is an annual celebration of the rich linguistic tapestry that make Europe so special. At King’s Hawford we understand the importance of learning another language and the benefits this can have.
All the children arrived at school dressed in the colours of a country of their choice and it is safe to say there was a real rainbow of colours!
The day began with everyone gathering either in their form or year groups and completing a House Quiz put together by King’s Hawford’s very own Modern Foreign Languages teacher. These were tailored to suit Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. Pupils across the school eagerly answered as many questions as they possibly could, thinking long and hard about their answers to ensure they won points for their Houses! We wonder which House will come out on top?
During break-time and lunchtime the children continued the quiz theme, taking part in quizzes located in and around the garden area. Taking various formats, one task involved finding the relevant country’s flag, whilst another required pupils to say “Hello” in a number of different languages. Finally pupils had to find some famous sights from various European countries.
During Modern Foreign Language lessons throughout the day, pupils have completed quizzes and puzzles as well as word searches and much, much more! Collecting those all important House points over the course of the day, pupils will be kept in suspense as to which House are to be crowned the winners! Winners will be announced next week in Celebration Assembly.
