The year's worth of training and preparation culminated in a fantastic National Schools’ Regatta for the King’s Boat Club in May. For some it was their first, and for some their last time at Eton Dorney Lake. The Upper Remove (Year 10) boys raced on Friday, setting the standard high and placing eighth in their time trial. After a fast semi-final they ended the day placing fourth in the B final! Congratulations to Luke Beever, Jack Barclay, Freddie Allan, Leo Rendall-Baker and Matthew Daniels.
The final day of NSR 2019 was another big day, as three crews proceeded to A/B finals. The Fifth Form (Year 11) Boys’ A boat provided a nail-biting time trial, making it through to the semis by 0.39 seconds. They had a fantastic B final, taking the race all the way to the line and placing fifth. Well done to Olly Timlin, Alex Checkley, Archie Stephan and Tom Angell. The Fifth Form Girls’ Double of Bea Beever and Georgie Thorp placed eleventh in their time trial, taking them through to the semis. In their B final, they were faster than crews who beat them in the time trial to place fourth. Due to the number of entries the Senior Girls’ Four were guaranteed a place in the semi-finals so decided to conserve energy in their time trial. The girls gained a place in the B final after a tough semi-final, where they found a burst of energy to rank second! A massive well done to Bea Evans, Emily Havercroft, Liberty Colebourne and Kate Emsley for a great year in the four.
To summarise, the Boat Club achieved: eighth place in the Girls’ Championship Four, tenth place in the J16 Girls’ Double Scull, eleventh place in the J16 Boys’ Quadruple Scull and tenth place in the J15 Boys’ Coxed Quadruple Scull.
