A Festive Finale: King’s St Alban’s Christmas Concert 2024

The King’s St Alban’s chapel was packed on Monday afternoon as family and friends gathered for the final concert of 2024. The concert had a Christmas theme and there was no shortage of festive items to whet our appetite for the coming celebrations.

In all, twenty- one pupils aged 5 to 11 took to the stage to perform on a wide variety of instruments including the piano, trumpet, voice, violin, guitar and alto saxophone. The range of pieces performed was impressive and there was something to please everyone. From old favourites such as ‘Jingle Bells’ (Geoffrey – Y2) and ‘We Three Kings’ (Barney – Y1), to modern classics such as ‘When Christmas comes to town’ (Daniel – Y4) and ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’ (Crispin – Y6) there was plenty of Christmas music to enjoy. George (Y6) wowed everyone with his smooth, nostalgic rendition of ‘The Christmas Song’ – played from memory. The programme was balanced out with a few non-seasonal items too, which was lovely. ‘The Bare Necessities’ (Max – Y4) had our toes tapping and Hannah (Y5) introduced a new piece to lots of us by performing the colourful and evocative ‘Sparkling splashes and smooth water’.

It was a joy to welcome a few new performers to the Informal Concert family. Jackson (Y6), Savannah (Y4), Jack (Y4) Daisy (Y6) and Flo (Y6) all took to the platform for the first time and impressed us with their confidence and beautiful playing.

Thanks must go to our Performing Arts prefect, Rosie, for introducing and stage managing this concert so smoothly. This was a wonderful event, and a really lovely way to round off a year’s fabulous music-making. We are already looking forward to what the 2025 concert season will bring! Congratulations everyone, and Merry Christmas from the Music Department at King’s St Alban’s!
