A scorching week of sport

Mercian Area Athletics Championships 2023

On Thursday, fifteen of our Year Five and Six pupils travelled to Stourport Athletics Club in the blazing sunshine to compete in the Mercia IAPS Athletics Competition. Everyone involved had previously had to record a qualifying score in their specific events in order to compete on the day, so the standard was high.

It was amazing to see them all striving to beat their personal best scores across their track and field events, despite the extremely hot weather; their determination and resilience was outstanding and they can be proud of their impressive performances. Special congratulations should go to Erin L, who was able to win both her high jump and 200m events, thus securing qualification to the National Finals in Nuneaton on Monday 3rd July.

Boys’ U11 IAPS cricket.

On Monday, a group of Year Five and Six cricketers travelled to Oundle to take part in the IAPS Under 11 cricket competition.  The boys played some super cricket in all five games, particularly with  the ball, bowling with pace and accuracy. It was fabulous to see the boys improve as the day progressed and learn lessons from each fixture.

U11 Boys’ Cricket v Bromsgrove School

On Wednesday, the Under 11 boys played against a strong Bromsgrove side. After an impressive 20-over effort in the field, containing some super spells from our strong seam attack and a first Under 11 A Team wicket from the spin of Henry W., King’s Hawford’s reply made a rapid start, with Freddie M and Ishmail B running well between the wickets.  After a flurry of wickets, Freddie P took responsibility, playing some superb shots and running well between stump to stump. His dismissal left Khaleefah G-F and Christopher H-S to see the team home.
