A trip to The Hive gives Pre-Prep pupils a buzz!

The Pre-Prep pupils, including children from Reception through to Year 2, enjoyed an informative outing to The Hive, Worcester’s iconic library earlier this week.

It was a beautiful autumnal morning for a walk and Year 1 and 2 enjoyed venturing down beside the river and through the city centre to reach The Hive. Reception joined the rest of the cohort at The Hive but travelled on the minibus- it’s a long walk for very little legs!

Upon arrival, Librarians Sarah and David read stories to the children before showing them around the library. The children explored the non-fiction books first and loved searching for and more importantly finding books about their interests. Dinosaurs and science books were extremely popular choices. The Librarians then explained to the eager group how you use the library, how many books you could borrow at once and how long they are loaned for.

After another story, Sarah put our Pre-Prep pupils to work! She had a big pile of books which had been returned and needed to be processed. Everyone loved using the returns machine and Sarah had saved the children some very heavy books to put through! After all that hard work the children stopped for a well-earned drink and a biscuit before choosing their own book to borrow. There was a huge amount of excitement and discussion as to which books they were going to take home and share with their families! All of the children had brought their own library card or signed up for one and so they all chose a book to take home.

We had a super morning and it was great to be out and about all together enjoying a local Worcester attraction. We then walked back to school- just in time for lunch!
