An OV Visit for a Good Cause

It is always lovely to catch up with OVs, and this week it was great to see OV Jabba Riaz (Br 91-96 and King’s Worcester Governor) on site at King’s Hawford.

Jabba was visiting in his capacity as Chairman and founder of the Perryfields Community Association (PCA), which is supported by Worcestershire Community Foundation, West Mercia Police, WCT, Young Solutions and Worcester City Council. The PCA only launched just over 18 months ago but has already delivered a number of projects to help advance education, knowledge, health and skills in the community.

Speaking about his visit, Jabba said, “The PCA’s latest project involves something we take for granted: learning to swim. A high proportion of Asian women are unable to swim due to several reasons, including lack of availability of ladies-only private swimming classes, as well as cultural factors. A number of high-profile drownings last year involving kids and parents from Asian backgrounds in open water has prompted the need for this skill to be delivered.

King’s Worcester Headmaster Gareth Doodes, added, “King’s is delighted to be supporting this project and its Chair, Councillor Jabba Riaz. Swimming is an essential life-skill. We applaud the work of the PCA with this wonderful initiative, potentially saving lives in the years to come.”
