Book Blitz for Year 6

The Year 6 cohort enjoyed the short walk alongside the River Seven to The Hive, the city’s iconic library. Built as a collaboration between the University of Worcester and Worcestershire County Council, the facility offers pupils at King’s St Alban’s the opportunity to explore a vast range of literature and further ignite their passion for reading and research. Pupils across the Pre-Prep and Prep school will regularly visit The Hive as part of their trips and visits programme.

, The Year 6 pupils had a fantastic afternoon, finding the whole experience nothing short of inspiring. After a warm welcome from two highly experienced librarians, the cohort were guided through a ‘Book Blitz’.  The lively session, lasting around an hour, was aimed at helping our pupils to look at reading a wider range of books, authors and genres. Working in small teams, the pupils discussed a variety of books, made notes and then ranked them to vote for their favourites.

One of the Year 6 pupils on the trip said, “I loved the ‘Book Blitz’, I discovered a number of books that I probably wouldn’t have even picked up before!” Another added, “You really can’t judge a book by its cover!”

Year 6 pupils later had a tour of the building, which they found fascinating. They engaged with the tour guides, asking an array of interesting questions. After the tour, the pupils enjoyed exploring the children’s library before finding a cosy nook to read a book. The majority of the children used their own library membership cards to take a book home to read over the half term holidays.

As always, the Year 6 pupils were exemplary in their behaviour throughout the trip.
