Bronze DofE Award Presentation

Last Friday, all the Fifth Form who fully completed their Bronze DofE Awards over the course of last year were presented with their badges and certificates by Miss Oliver and Dr Davies. Of the 89 who successfully completed their assessed expeditions last summer, 81 have so far gone on to complete all their other sections and therefore achieve their award. This is an extremely impressive accomplishment and represents a great commitment from all those involved.

Together they spent over 4,500 hours on a huge range of activities working towards their volunteering, physical and skills sections. Organisations and communities are particularly appreciative of the time participants give to their voluntary work. For the expedition section, the participants completed a practice and an assessed expedition, both of which were in the Cotswolds and 20–25 miles over two days. The assessed expedition in June was during the start of the hot weather. This was in stark contrast to the very cold conditions experienced on the practice expedition in March. They also attended two rigorous training days where much was learned about the kit, camp craft and route planning.

47 of those who participated in the Bronze Award have gone on to Silver. They are now looking forward to their practice expedition in the Black Mountains at the start of the Easter holiday, and they spent the day in school on Sunday planning for this. The practice will set them in very good stead for the assessed expedition on Dartmoor at the end of June.

Congratulations to everyone who received their Bronze awards!
