Celebration Assembly 25.9.20

Thank you to Mrs Gunter for starting today’s celebration assembly with a fabulous performance of two movements from Telemann’s Fantasia no 2 for solo flute.

All of the teachers in Pre-Prep have sent in messages congratulating their children (and parents!) on a fantastic week’s work. Mrs Hadfield and Mrs Thorp were incredibly impressed by Reception’s hard work, flexibility and resilience. Mrs Chatterton loved seeing videos and photographs of Year 1 embracing their learning with enthusiasm and flexibility and Miss Chadwick said that all of her class had put in super effort at home this week. Mrs Stenson was hugely impressed by our Reception children who sent in videos of themselves speaking French, even though they have only had one lesson so far!

Well done to Year 3 this week. Laura and Martha were congratulated on their hard work and focus in their comprehension work, Reuben, Martha and Monty did brilliantly in Maths and Magnus pushed himself to finish the page in his CGP book.

Year 4 are studying Celtic Round Houses and Mrs Ricketts was delighted by the innovative models which children created, particularly Jack’s Lego creation with a removable roof!

Year 5 have had an amazing week. They have maintained a full timetable via Showbie, including history lessons about ‘The Prince in the Tower.’  The children wrote confession letters, with Olivia K, Florence B, Seb, Felix, Jack, Evie B, Olivia S and Alice writing particularly good pieces.  Year 5 also practised their descriptive writing skills when writing about their dream island. Mrs Lewis said that some were so good that it made her want to visit them herself!  Well done to Ollie KD, Seb, J.M., Mihika, Aiden, Mia, Mea, Ollie J and Ivy. Mrs Pitts was very impressed with the children in her Year 5 maths set. They looked at 4×4 number squares, learning from mistakes made last week and moving on to produce some super work this time round. Special mention goes to Ollie KD, Taym, Mihika and Izzy.

Wednesday was AFP afternoon and Mrs Hand asked Year 5 to design and test fitness circuits as part of their activities. Mia, Seb and Ollie J demonstrated their designs most enthusiastically! Year 6 took the swimming pool for their AFP afternoon, with an inter-house gala and also a water polo tournament. Well done to everyone for a super effort. For many it was the first time back in the water for some time and was great to see them take part so enthusiastically.

Mrs Beauchamp would like to congratulate Gracie, Katie, Giles Benedict and Amelia in Year 6 for their excellent storytelling work and Mr Chapman gave special mention to Joshua in his Year 6 maths set for solving a particularly tricky problem about total eclipses in a planet with seven moons!

Mrs Cain has seen some great art work across the school this week. Year 2 designed fantasy castles via Dojo and Yifei, Albert, Ben, Emma, Will and Archie did brilliantly. Year 4 are designing knights’ armour and Mrs Cain was particularly impressed with Harry B, Mortimer, Peggy and Emily. Year 5 are using the Tudor Rose as inspiration for their art and Scarlett, Felix, Mihika, Jack, Lucia, Jessica and Olivia were congratulated on their excellent work. Another super week!
