Celebration Assembly 27th November 2020

Mr Chapman began today’s assembly by awarding Super Hero certificates to our hard-working Pre-Prep children. From Reception, Bertie received an award for showing perseverance with his letter formation and Amber for always being polite and enthusiastic.  In Year 1, Aubrey received a certificate for super focus when writing a letter to Bill the Owl as did Greta for listening and working hard and Nell for her excellent maths.  Tommy, in Year 2, received a certificate for always being ready to learn and Ariya a Superstar Award for excellent work in maths.

There was an excellent selection of GYM Homework from Pre-Prep with particular mention to Cerys, Ben, Alban, Kasvika, Henry, Jasper and Greta.

Mrs Cain has been delighted by the excellent art and DT work produced this week.  Skye and Tommy painted beautiful pictures of a robin in the snow and Lottie did a super painting of a reindeer wearing a Christmas jumper.  Year 6 made wooden structures which had to hold a tea light, an egg or a test tube.  The children’s designs varied in shape and composition, and clearly a great deal of thought had gone into each one.  Well done to Anna, Heidi, Melissa, Oscar, Sazan and Noah for their super designs.

Year 3 have been writing poems titled “It was so quiet” and both Mrs Etherington and Mrs Atkinson were delighted by the children’s perseverance, presentation and use of exciting verbs. Well done in particular to Reuben, Oliver, Aelwen and Humph.  Well done also to Wilf, who received special mention for always being bubby and kind!  Year 4 have also been writing poetry and both Rory and Penny were congratulated on their work.

Year 5 have been learning about the Tudor period in their history lessons and this week they wrote diary entries from the viewpoint of a Tudor child. Liv, Scarlett, Adil, Florence, Mihika and JM were congratulated on their excellent work.  In science, Year 5 have been learning about the earthworm and Jessica produced some excellent research which was beautifully presented.  JM wrote a super character study based on Severus Snape from the Harry Potter books,  Felix got full marks in a French spelling test, which is a super achievement, and Giles passed Grade 5 ‘cello.  Well done, all of you!

There were 11 times tables certificates awarded this morning and further maths successes to celebrate from our Year 6 mathematicians.   The children in set 1 entered the Primary Maths Challenge, an annual maths competition which is renowned for being particularly tricky!  Well done to Giles, Jinc, Izzy and Luca who all earned a Bronze award, to Florence and Seb who earned Silver awards and to Josh who received a Gold award.

Year 6 took part in a cross-country race this week and all of the children were commended on for genuinely enjoying each other’s successes.  Well done to Anna, Sophie and Florence who took the first three places for the girls and to Sam, Oscar and Angus who led the pack for the boys. Benedict and Alex were also congratulated on their determination and effort, and for crossing the finish line with a broad smile, irrespective of their place in the field!

Finally, congratulations to Ffion whose stunning picture of a robin won the Christmas Card competition run by Mrs Cain during Art Club.  Ffion’s design will now be used to create the official 2020 KSA Christmas card.  Well done, Ffion!
