Celebration Assembly Marks a Joyous Return After Half Term

The first week back after the half-term break was filled with excitement and celebration at King’s Hawford. The atmosphere was electric as Mr Butt welcomed children and staff to The Barn, which had a new look in preparation for the upcoming Years Five and Six production. With the dress rehearsal scheduled for today, the stage was set, and the Years Five and Six pupils were notably absent from the assembly.

Mr Butt kicked off the assembly by celebrating a significant achievement outside school. Alex S-C was recognised for his outstanding performance at last weekend’s UK chess challenge, earning applause from his peers and teachers.

Reflecting on the achievements from the last half term, the much-anticipated results of the Years Three and Four biathlon were announced. The event, which challenged pupils to swim four lengths of the swimming pool and run three laps of the Top Field, saw impressive performances from many young athletes. The medal winners were:

  • Year 3 Runner-Up (Girl): Fearne (10 minutes 31 seconds)
  • Year 3 Winner (Girl): Persie (9 minutes 13 seconds)
  • Year 3 Runner-Up (Boy): Cassian (10 minutes 02 seconds)
  • Year 3 Winner (Boy): Rupert (9 minutes 39 seconds)
  • Year 4 Runner-Up (Girl): Charlotte F (9 minutes 03 seconds)
  • Year 4 Winner (Girl): Maysie (9 minutes 13 seconds)
  • Year 4 Runner-Up (Boy): Austin (8 minutes 19 seconds)
  • Year 4 Winner (Boy): Arthur (7 minutes 42 seconds)

Mr Butt congratulated all participants, noting the biathlon’s challenging nature and commending their perseverance and sportsmanship.

The assembly continued with the recognition of this week’s Top House Point achievers, who received certificates for their efforts:

  • Reception: Evelyn
  • Year 1: Minnow
  • Year 2: Indie
  • Year 3: Gabe
  • Year 4: Henry

Despite the smaller crowd, the pupils filled the hall with a joyful rendition of the hymn Shout for Joy. The celebration continued as the pupils sang Happy Birthday to Indie and Ellie, who are celebrating their birthdays this week. A momentary power cut added a bit of drama, but the last note was sung just in time.

Next, the assembly recognised pupils who had earned activity badges, a testament to their hard work and dedication. This week’s badge recipients were:

  • Fellowship Badge: Bonita-May
  • Junior King’s Hawford Badges: Chaya, Gabe, Cassian, Rupert, and Robyn

A special highlight of the assembly was the presentation of a Headmaster’s Award to Jack, for his exceptional work in science. Jack’s beautiful booklet on the habitats of various creatures, including slugs, butterflies, and porcupines, showcased his passion and meticulous research.

Looking ahead, everyone is excited for the Years Five and Six Aquathon at Watersedge next week. The event promises thrilling competition as pupils swim in the wild, and the school community eagerly awaits the results.

The assembly concluded with the Lord’s Prayer, bringing a joyous and successful first week back to a close.
