Celebration Assembly of The Week
We began today’s assembly with a thoughtful reflection led by Mr Cook, focusing on VE Day (Victory in Europe Day). He explained the historical importance of 8th May 1945, the day World War II ended in Europe. The children learned that VE Day marked the moment when Nazi Germany surrendered, and people across Britain and Europe celebrated the end of years of war, destruction, and fear.
Mr Cook also spoke about Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister at the time, who played a key role in leading the country through the war. His speeches, leadership, and resilience helped to inspire the nation during its darkest hours.
We reflected on the importance of remembering VE Day not only as a moment of celebration but also as a time to honour the sacrifices made by millions—both on the battlefield and at home. It’s a time to remember those who fought for peace, freedom, and a better future.
