Chance to Dance showcase

On Monday afternoon we held the first ‘Chance to Dance’ of the new academic year. We were fortunate that this could be held in the John Moore Theatre at King’s Worcester, which provided our budding dancers with a lovely space in which to showcase their hard work. Professional quality lighting, especially designed for each dance, plus a superb sound system, meant that this was a real treat for everyone involved.

Although the show had to be performed behind closed doors, the wonderful theatre staff and senior pupils gave their time to film the show so it can be enjoyed by everyone in the school community at a later date.

The programme was full of variety, with dances set to music as varied as Taylor Swift’s lively and punchy ‘Me’ (danced by Anna S) and the hauntingly beautiful ‘Skinny Love’ by Birdie (a duet by Gracie L and Stephanie K). Some of the girls had choreographed their pieces themselves and others were the result of hard work in Dance Club or with their dance schools.

Back in March, we were all very sad that Creative ConneXions, ‘A Snapshot of Britain’, had to be cancelled at short notice. Everyone had worked extremely hard to get the show ready and we were all really excited about the approaching performances. Alongside the class dances, our Dance Club had prepared two pieces for the show and it was lovely to be able to revise these and perform them on Monday.

Firstly, they treated us to a stunning ‘Daffodil’ dance, set to 9Bach’s gorgeous song ‘Cariad Cyntaf’. This stylish piece really captured the essence of the national symbol of Wales and provided a great opening number to the show. They also provided a fitting finale, with ‘A Celebration of British Music’ – a toe-tapping number that included rousing songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond. It was a trip down memory lane for the staff too!

This was a great event. Congratulations to everyone who took part.
