This year’s House Music Competition had a number of new venues due to the ongoing work in College Hall. Last week the solo round took place in the music department with nearly 50 pupils taking part in the middle years and sixth form competitions. A wide range of instrumentalists and singing styles were presented throughout an entertaining day of music making.
The hotly contested house song competition took place for the very first time in the Cathedral. Each house gave an enthusiastic account of themselves. Particular congratulations go to those who accompanied each house, whether on piano, guitar or even trombone as well as the U6th pupils who led the rehearsals and conducted their house performance. Wulstan came third with an excellent performance of Halo. Castle were runners up with a fun version of It’s the final countdown, including a chorus of kazoos, and Chappel retained their title as overall winners with I’m still standing. Castle and Chappel reprised their songs in the Theatre on Wednesday during the winners’ concert, which included an excellent selection of performances from the solo competition.
Due to the work in and around College Hall, the dates of two concerts next half term have been swapped. The School Concert will now take place on Wednesday 13th November in the Theatre and the Senior Chamber Concert will take place on Thursday 28th November with the venue yet to be confirmed.
