Charity race raises Christmas Spirit

On Monday afternoon we held our very first charity ‘Rudolph Run’ race! All children from Kindergarten 1 to Year 2 were tasked with a sponsored run around the perimeter of the top fields. On arrival, parents enjoyed refreshments in The Barn, with the mince pies proving very popular. The children were in high spirits as they descended on to the top fields outside The Barn. With their noses painted red and sporting a pair of handmade antlers, the children were keen to get going! Their antlers deserve a special mention, as each of the children had devoted time to decorating their own antlers in unique styles.

The youngest of children had two laps of the field to complete. Kindergarten One started proceedings, with the help of some fabulous Year 5 pupils to lead the way. The children and staff from Kindergarten Two then set off, with some of the older ones quickly catching up with the little legs of KG1. Reception children, supported by Miss Lane, Mrs Leatherdale and Mrs Lauder were up next.

Then it was time for Year 1 and Year 2 to start their four laps. Very quickly, the whole of the top field was awash with children running, walking, skipping and toddling their ways around. Some children set off at an astonishing pace and soon many had rosy cheeks to rival their red noses! It was great to see so many of the staff joining in and providing the children with some extra encouragement. Mr Butt led by example, donning a pair of antlers and running the course with the children.

The event took place in front of an incredibly supportive army of mums, dads, aunts, uncles and grandparents. The children thoroughly enjoyed their encouragement as they completed each lap of the field.

There was a lovely atmosphere at the event, showcasing the warmth of the King’s Hawford community. Thank you to all of those who braved the cold to cheer on the children. We hope you enjoyed the mince pies and refreshments.

Through the sponsorship of the run, the children have raised a grand total of £1,600 for our school charities – The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, Get Kids Going and Project Gambia.
