Charles Takes on Incredible Charity Challenge

We are incredibly proud of Charles H in Year 6, who has launched an impressive charity challenge, aiming to run a staggering 100 miles (160km) for Breakthrough T1D, one of the school’s chosen charities.

While the official challenge set by Breakthrough T1D is to complete either 50km or 100km by the end of the month, Charles has decided to up the ante considerably by setting himself the ambitious target of 100 miles. That works out at around 3.7 miles (6km) every day throughout February – no small feat, especially in winter weather.

Charles got off to a fantastic start in the first week, fitting in runs before school, during breaks and after the school day had finished. He has been running through some wet, wintery and very muddy conditions – and his dedication is already paying off. By the end of day five, he is on track with approximately 32km (around 20 miles) already completed.

His commitment was clear for all to see in assembly this week. When Charles stood up to read the prayer, he had muddy knees and mud on his uniform – evidence of an early morning run before school. Mr Butt initially wondered whether Charles had simply forgotten to wash, before realising it was a clear sign of his determination to stick to the challenge!

We are incredibly proud of Charles for taking on such a tough goal and showing real perseverance, resilience and generosity. If you would like to support him, his JustGiving page can be found here.

Every donation and word of encouragement will help keep him going as he works his way towards the 100-mile finish line.

Good luck, Charles – the whole of King’s Hawford is cheering you on!
