Christmas Trip: The show went on!
After the initial disappointment of discovering that due to cast illness, the King’s St Alban’s visit to The Rep in Birmingham to see ‘Nativity’ The Musical had been cancelled all was not lost! However, the show went on, albeit in a different type of theatre!
Putting our thinking caps on within minutes the staff at King’s St Alban’s had come up with a solution to ensure that all of the pupils still had the opportunity to go on a Christmas school trip. Just a short hop, skip and a jump away from our school we are lucky to have access to Worcester City Centre which is home to Vue Cinema. Sara, the School Secretary quickly secured tickets for the whole school to see ‘Matilda The Musical’, taking over the majority of the auditorium.
The children eagerly tucked into their early packed lunch before they walked impeccably (ambassadors for King’s St Alban’s as always!) into the city. Taking their seats, the children were delighted at the retelling of the well-loved book. Many of the pupils recognised the songs and couldn’t help but quietly sing along.
A group of Year 4 pupils walking back to King’s St Alban’s following the show could be heard saying “The was amazing, I want to go and see it again and again.” Whilst, the Year 6 pupil commented on “The brilliant cast and how much fun it must be to be on a film set producing films like Matilda.” Perhaps we will see some of our pupils on the big screen in the years to come.
The pupils were extremely well behaved throughout the showing, enthralled by the story, the songs and mesmerized by the brilliant young actors and actresses.
Despite the initial disappointment and panic the show went on and the day ended happily. We hope the cast of ‘Nativity’ recover quickly and we look forward to visiting the Rep Theatre in the New Year.
