Determination Shines Through: Hawford Hockey Teams Brave the Elements

Year 3 Girls Show Resilience and Teamwork in Six-Match Hockey Tournament at Winterfold

Nine Year 3 girls travelled to Winterfold on a very damp Tuesday afternoon. Despite the weather, the girls were enthusiastic and got stuck into their six respective matches – two teams playing against the hosts, Moor Park, RGS The Grange and King’s St Alban’s.

Miss Holtham’s team worked really hard in three action-packed hockey matches. Bonnie and Tanith excelled in their role as defence, defending the goal with determination and precision. When Bonnie was given the opportunity to play forward, she made the most of the open space, thrilling the team with a well-earned goal. Alice demonstrated great awareness of positioning, finding open space and distributing the ball to her teammates. Emily had a fantastic game, putting in solid tackles and driving the team forward with her attacking mindset.  Bonita -May joined the team for our final game of the day and worked well with the girls attacking the ball and passing to her peers well. All in all, the team showed impressive collaboration and determination across all three matches.

On the other pitch, Miss Lake’s team played three matches with end-to-end play each time. Bonita-May and Georgina worked tirelessly throughout all three games, driving the ball forward and allowing lots of goal-scoring opportunities (and they also managed plenty of goals!); Lily began to find great space, showing good game awareness; Aoife made some crucial interceptions, and Sadie grew in confidence throughout the afternoon, getting stuck into tackles in the final game. The girls should be extremely proud of their resilience that was on display!

U8 & U9 Hockey Match At RGS Springfield

On Tuesday the U8 & U9 Hockey girls travelled to Springfield. The weather was not on our side and the rain continued to get heavier and heavier throughout the match. The girls were totally unperturbed by the conditions and showed tremendous resilience throughout.
The captains of the three teams, Alanna A, Georgia P and Sylvie P, led by example and encouraged their teammates right to the final whistle.
There was some excellent play in midfield by Isla H and Maddie P who were tenacious in winning the ball back from the opposition. Sophia R, Connie C and Syrenna B made some excellent clearances from defence with Ffion W and Ellie M working hard to keep the ball in our attacking half. In the final minutes Ellie H was denied a certain goal by the particularly deep puddle that had formed in front of the goal but overall, the girls worked hard and dug deep in challenging conditions and enjoyed a well-earned match tea together following the matches.

U10’s & U11’s Hockey Fixture At The Elms

On Wednesday all the U10 and U11 Hockey teams travelled over to The Elms on another particularly wet afternoon. Armed with big touchline coats the girls were in good spirits and always enjoy a minibus journey.

Mrs Butt’s Team stepped on to pitch 1 first and maintained most of the possession for the match. Millie, Olivia, Jasmine and Charlotte did a great job to hold a strong midfield with some great distribution of the ball. Pip K and Elizabeth were once again solid in defence stopping any attack from the opposition swiftly leaving Mary little to do in goal. Thea and Pippa K rotated in the attacking role and had several shots on target. Goals from Millie and Jasmine sealed the win for the team and overall, the girls should be proud of the passing hockey that they played throughout.

Miss Lake’s team took to the pitch. Mary returned as goalkeeper, making some vital, early saves in the third quarter showing fantastic confidence. The girls grew into the game with Florrie, Iza, Maysie and Lyra working tirelessly, rotating positions when needed. Sophie showed skill on the ball, and Zara and Rosie proved themselves in defence, sending the ball wide as soon as they made an interception. The Elms edged to a 1-0 lead just before the end of the first half, however in the second half, the girls played defensively to keep the scoreline as it was. Millie and Florrie were named as players of the match for each team. All of the girls should be proud of their achievements against a tough opposition from The Elms – there was some beautiful hockey on display!

Mrs Beech’s Team took to pitch 2 first. From the start, the team showcased excellent teamwork with Ariana and Olivia W working the ball brilliantly around the D. The team displayed attacking strategies, particularly in the attacking quarter of the pitch where Arianna, Annie and Chloe S scored some fantastic goals. Their coordination as a team paid off with a series of sweeping goals that highlighted their ability to work together effectively. The forwards made impressive runs, creating numerous scoring opportunities and demonstrating great control in the D.

Defensively, the goalkeeping was outstanding, with several crucial saves by Robyn that kept the opposing Elms team at bay. Robyn’s quick reflexes and composure under pressure were key to the team’s success. Overall, the girls exhibited a fantastic spirit and resilience, making it a memorable match for everyone involved. Well done, team Hawford!

Miss Holtham’s Team took to the pitches as the rain started but this didn’t dampen the girls’ determination to do well. Robyn stayed on as goalkeeper and put in a tremendous amount of effort, she made some great saves and her confidence is growing every game. The girls worked hard showing some great teamwork, Indie really showed her place on the pitch is in defence, she made some impressive interceptions and cleared the ball out of the D on many occasions. Overall, all the girls played well and showed great resilience they are looking forward to their next match.
