King's Hawford

17 June

Dominant performances on the cricket pitch.

U11 Cricket v Malvern College The Downs

The Under 11s finished off their cricket season with another dominant performance at the picturesque Colwall Cricket Club against Malvern College The Downs. Bowling first, they were quickly into their stride with early wickets for Fletcher K and Bertie G. Will Y-B came into the attack and picked up three wickets with his leg spin. A late order flurry pushed the Downs to 69 all out. Opening the batting for the first time, Bertie G batted through the Hawford inning with a combination of solid defence and well-judged attacking shots. He was supported by Will L, who made a season’s best 25 not out. The Under 11s have had a magnificent term. The quality of their cricket has drawn praise from opposition coaches and parents and I am sure the Senior School cricket coaching staff are looking forward to working with them next year.

U11 Cricket v Bromsgrove School

Our Year 6 cricketers produced an excellent all-round performance at Bromsgrove.  Batting first, some sensible running and powerful hitting  to a short boundary saw us post a huge score, anchored by an well-judged innings by Nico C.  A tight bowling performance and formidable fielding saw Hawford restrict the opposition’s opportunities to score freely. Isaac P bowled with pace and accuracy, taking two wickets, and Harry B took a caught-and-bowled of which any professional cricketer would be proud.  A huge thank you to Harvey R and Jack W, who joined in with a group of boys from King’s St Alban’s to create a Foundation side which also took the field against Bromsgrove in a highly enjoyable and successful afternoon.

U9 Boys’ & Girls’ Cricket v Winterfold

On Tuesday afternoon the Year 4 children travelled to Winterfold School for a series of excellent cricketing performances. The progress from the start of term to now was on show for all to see across all three matches, as the Hawford children consistently made impressive decisions whilst batting as well as when fielding. It was lovely to see the children working so well together and encouraging each other’s efforts when bowling. There were super displays of accurate and pacey bowling as well as several impressive boundary fours and sixes being struck with the bat. Star performances from Archie N, Grace D and Robyn G with the ball, Harriet B and George O with the bat, a great partnership from Sammy M and Darcy B and impressive power-hitting from Palmer G helped us to three impressive results.

U10 Cricket v Malvern College The Downs

A thoroughly enjoyable cricket match took place between King’s Hawford U10 boys and Malvern College The Downs U10 boys in the beautiful setting of Colwall Cricket Club on Wednesday afternoon. The boys put in a highly impressive and dominant performance, winning the toss and selecting to field first. The bowling performance that followed was certainly the best so far this term, with super energy in the field from Hudson M and Barnaby B and several impressive wickets from Sartaaj G plus three from Jack M. Max D also showed super progress in his fielding, and Johnnie T was great behind the stumps. The run chase started well with 19 valuable early runs from Khaleefah G in his new position opening the batting. The standout batting performance was undoubtedly from Freddie M who, for the second time this term, carried his bat from the start of the innings to the end. He hit a full repertoire of excellent shots and ran intelligently between the wickets to get to a top score of 37 runs. Freddie was also ably assisted by contributions from Max M, Johnnie T and Freddie P, who was unfortunate to be caught behind when he was starting to get set and was looking good with the bat.

U10 Girls’ Cricket v Winterfold

Captain, Arya, lost the toss, so they were batting first. Knowing they had to clock up the runs, the girls went out with steely determination. Rose and Issie started us off and set the tone by reaching 12 runs between them, Issie scoring two fours. The pairs followed and the girls were having a tremendous batting innings. They were communicating brilliantly and pushing themselves to gain as many runs as they could. Georgia, Edith, Arya and Erin joined Issie in the four club, giving them a great total.

They knew they had to stay awake out in the field by stopping any ball going past them and over the boundary. They didn’t disappoint. As well as bowling accurately, the girls were quick to retrieve the ball and get it in to the wickets. They were very proud of the afternoon cricket they played, as are we!

U8 Cricket v Winterfold

Sunshine, Cricket & the glorious grounds of King’s Hawford. What a wonderful afternoon of cricket was witnessed this week with Winterfold travelling down to face our U8 Boys & Girls. Once again, every single pupil in Year 3 got the opportunity to represent Kings Hawford and play in some great and very close fought matches. What was most pleasing to see were the improvements in everyone’s play from the previous weeks with several children hitting regular 4s & 6s. Special mention goes to Finn MP & Luca E, Harry G & George C. Each pair batted amazingly and communicated well.

Well done boys & girls, great cricket played in the right way and in the right spirit! Mrs Beech & Ms Layton were impressed. Man of the match (awarded by Winterfold) went to Finn M.P and Harry G
