Early Years Sport
At King’s Hawford, we have a strong belief in the values of physical activity and the holistic benefits that exercise has on the development of children from a young age.
Our early years children have an excellent start to physical education. All children from Reception to Year 2 enjoy an hour and 45 minutes of timetabled sport each week including PE lessons that develop their fundamental motor skills, swimming, gymnastics, teamwork and athletics as well as a games afternoon that focuses on the basics of rugby, football and cricket for the boys and hockey, netball and rounders for the girls.
The purpose of sport
The purpose of sport in the early years phase is to teach children the love of sport and physical activities and to prepare them for the more competitive nature of sport from year 3 onwards.
Early Years swimming
From the age of three children have the opportunity to swim at least once a week in our onsite heated indoor swimming pool, with staff that they know well in an environment that is familiar to them.
