Entrance Procedure King's Hawford
Applying for a place at King's Hawford, an Independent co-educational day school for ages 2-11
Following an initial inquiry by the parent, the Registrar will send a prospectus and
detailed information on fees, allowances and other relevant topics by post to the parents.
ENTRANCE PROCEDURE: Visit King's Hawford
Parents can then decide if they wish to meet the Head, Jim Turner and tour the school. An appointment can be made by telephoning our Registrar, Donna Wenyon, on 01905 451292 or via email firstname.lastname@example.org
Following their visit and tour of the school, parents/guardians will then be invited to complete and return a registration form together with a fee of £40. This is an ‘Expression of Interest’ for a child at King’s Hawford. It does not guarantee reservation of a place. The £40 fee (which is non-refundable) covers administration and the cost of assessing each child.
Children from age 5 and upward will then be invited to spend a day at school with their current year group, during which time they will be assessed. If relevant, a report from the child’s previous school is requested.
If all goes well, a place will then be offered, depending on availability at that time, and will be held for two weeks. Acceptance of entry into the King's Foundation, by payment of a £200 deposit, will be requested at this point. This is refunded when children leave the Foundation.
Entrance Procedure: Following Registration
Once a family has registered a child with us we will keep them informed of all school events prior to their child joining the school. In particular, parents may wish to book places for their child on the many holiday activities and sports camps that take place at King’s Hawford during the holiday periods. In the event of over-subscription, places will be allocated on the following basis, provided that the academic criteria for the award of a place have been met:
- Siblings of children already at King’s Hawford
- Siblings of children who have been at the school
- Children whose parents attended a school within the King’s Foundation, or Hawford Lodge, prior to it becoming part of the Foundation
- The date on which a place, having been offered, is formally accepted.
These are available for candidates of exceptional academic or musical ability. These awards are of up to one-third tuition fees in value and are tenable only in the Junior School. Further awards are available at 11+ and 13+.
