Fields of Battle – Lands of Peace photographer talks at King’s Worcester

We were delighted to welcome international award winning photojournalist Michael St Maur Sheil into school recently to deliver a series of engaging talks about the Fields of Battle – Land of Peace exhibition.

Fields of Battle is a powerful and poignant open air photographic exhibition by Michael, which celebrates the centenary of First World War. It was situated in Cathedral Square throughout the month of September and was free to attend.

Michael talked to pupils about the First World War, educating and inspiring them with photographs from his exhibition and the stories behind them. He also brought along the Loos Football for pupils to look at – the original football kicked across no man’s land during the Battle of Loos in 1915.

Eleven visiting primary and secondary schools from across Worcestershire were able to join us for the talks, which took place in the King’s School’s theatre.

In addition to Michael’s visit, King’s has launched a Primary Schools’ Writing Competition on the theme of the First World War.
