Forest School Fun for Year Two and their Pre-Prep friends

Last week, Year Two enjoyed a wonderful day in our Forest School area, as pupils thoroughly enjoyed swapping their usual classroom for the great outdoors. It was fantastic to see all of the children embracing the opportunity to be outside and there was some fantastic teamwork on display throughout the day as Year Two worked their way through a series of activities. The children rose to the challenge of building a water chute for rubber ducks to fly down; this fantastic STEM task captured the children’s imagination and kept them captivated for a long time. The enthusiasm they displayed during the activity was really heartening to witness.

There was a range of activities on offer all day, allowing the learning to be very much child-led: some children chose to build a mud house for toy hedgehogs whilst others used bamboo sticks to build tripods and structures. Forest School is a specialised, inspirational, child-centred learning approach and Year Two gained a great deal from the experience. The class were delightful and worked brilliantly in small groups.

The Reception and Year One classes joined Year Two for the afternoon session. We firmly believe that outdoor experiences enhance and develop classroom-based learning and all of the Pre-Prep children benefited from the Forest School sessions. It was a brilliant way to wrap up our Spring Term Forest School sessions.
