Grandparents’ Day Delights with Circus-Themed Celebration
Grandparents’ Day is a treasured occasion in our school community, and this year’s celebration – set against the backdrop of glorious sunshine and anticipation – was no exception. As a highlight of our annual Arts Week, this year’s event embraced the vibrant theme of The Circus, setting the stage for a day full of music, colour, and connection.
Pupils gathered excitedly on the top field to greet a sea of smiling grandparents. Reunited, they proudly led their guests on tours around the School, pointing out classrooms, favourite spots, and displays of their creative work. Grandparents delighted in looking through school books and admiring the colourful evidence of their grandchildren’s hard work and imagination.
The heart of the day was our spectacular musical extravaganza, held in the marquee and featuring a range of performances — starting with Kindergarten 2 and culminating with our incredible 2025 leavers in Year 6. We hope you enjoyed the show!
The concert began with the Orchestra’s lively rendition of Dixie Circus Two Beat, instantly setting a festive tone. The String Group followed with two upbeat pieces: Rock About the Circus and Circus Rumba. The Woodwind Group kept the energy high with a thrilling performance of Raider’s March, while the Brass Group delighted the audience with Let Me Entertain You and the rousing Circus March. The Harp Group brought a more reflective mood with Scarborough Fair, followed by the playful Popcorn.
Our younger performers were a highlight, with Kindergarten charming everyone with Nellie the Elephant and Reception singing The Circus Came to Town. Year 1 gave a spirited performance of Those Magnificent Men on the Flying Trapeze, while Year 2 added their own version of Nellie the Elephant. Year 3’s Roller Ghoster was energetic and fun, and Year 4’s rendition of Come Follow the Band brought a sense of showmanship.
The Junior Choir’s performance of Join the Circus echoed the day’s theme perfectly, and Year 5 had the audience smiling with Be a Clown. Year 6 gave a moving performance of Tightrope, showcasing their talent and maturity. The Senior Choir followed with a beautiful rendition of A Million Dreams, adding a touch of aspiration and emotion.
The concert also featured dazzling dance performances. Alanna A captivated the audience with a whimsical Charlie Chaplin walk and a piece titled Sounds of the Circus. The Dance Mix group delivered a dynamic routine to Nice to Meet You, adding even more energy and flair.
The entire Prep School then joined together on stage for a rousing finale—This Is Me—a fitting end to a celebration of individuality, creativity, and community spirit.
After the performances, grandparents and pupils gathered on the top field to enjoy refreshments. With the sun shining brightly, cakes were shared, stories exchanged, and the ever-popular ice-cream van offered a sweet conclusion to a magical day.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the grandparents who joined us. Your presence made the day even more special, and we hope you enjoyed every moment of our circus-themed celebration!
