The concept of "Growth Mindset" was developed by psychologist Carol Dweck. The idea focuses on the belief that pupils’ abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work.
growth mindset | personal qualities
At King’s St Alban's, children are encouraged to display specific personal qualities both towards their schoolwork and in their daily life at school; qualities such as perseverance, ambition, kindness, curiosity, and creativity. Each term, we introduce two "Growth Mindset" words based on such qualities, which children are to encompass in their everyday school life.
Growth mindset incorporated into school life
In addition, Growth Mindset is promoted in assemblies through stories, mindset heroes and celebrating those children who aspire to have a "Growth Mindset".
Growth mindset at home
We build strong links between home and school to enable parents to use "Growth Mindset" language at home and encourage your children to believe they can always improve and that mistakes are learning opportunities.
