The summer heat did not quash the enthusiasm of seventy local primary school children from seventeen primary schools who came to the King’s School in the penultimate week of term to compete for the 2018 King’s Primary Schools’ Maths Shield.
The event comprised four rounds of maths-based questions including a mixture of problem solving, arithmetic and logic. The final round was a mathematical relay against the clock. The aim was for the children (and staff!) to experience a different angle on mathematics and to promote mathematical dexterity, teamwork and communication skills.
The eventual winners in a fiercely contested competition were the team of Year 5 children from Hanley Swan Primary School. Lyppard Grange and Pitmaston Primary Schools came second and third respectively.
