King's St Alban's

House Activity: Pre-Prep and Prep School pupils come together.

Thursday morning saw the return of our House Activity programme, with pupils from Reception through to our Year 6 gathering together in our King’s St Alban’s House groups. Ready to enjoy this important and cherished aspect of life at King’s St Alban’s, the Pre-Prep children hopped, skipped and jumped across the road to join their friends in the Prep School for the first House meeting and shared activity of the new academic year.

Upon enrolment at King’s St Alban’s, every pupil is allocated to a House, namely Bailey, Wilson, Thomas and Armstrong. These Houses are named after significant figures in the history of King’s St Alban’s Prep School:

Armstrong – Canon Claude Armstrong was a former Headmaster and Governor of the school. It was Canon Armstrong who had the vision to buy St Alban’s House, with chapel and surrounding land. His vision saw the expansion of the School to include a swimming pool and sports hall.

Bailey – Bill Bailey was a former Housemaster who saw the growth of King’s St Alban’s from 9 to 28 boys from 1944 to 1948 but was also a Geography teacher at King’s School Worcester for 31 years!

Thomas – Wilfred Thomas was a long serving Headmaster of St Alban’s, in post for a total of 20 years from 1955. Mr Thomas established lots of the School as we know it now; he added more classrooms, increased playground space and introduced eating lunch at “Big King’s”.

Wilson – Lester Wilson was the first Headmaster of St Alban’s School when the school opened with 91 pupils, all boys, many of whom where Choristers at Worcester Cathedral.

Making use of our wonderful surroundings, Bailey House pupils embarked on a trip to our neighbouring Worcester Cathedral, where they learnt about the structure and history of the building, found hidden treasures in the stained glass windows and learnt about the crypt and bell tower. Wilson House avoided the rain showers and took a walk along the River Seven. They were challenged with spotting various points of interest along the way. Thomas House enjoyed a more peaceful morning taking part in mindfulness activities whilst Armstrong House had fun with games and challenges around our campus. The children enjoyed getting together and welcoming our new children into their Houses.
