House Matches encourage friendly competition

Our House matches mark the end of the hockey and rugby seasons. It was great to see all of our prep pupils involved in the matches representing their houses.

U8 & U9 Inter House Rugby

The boys in Years 3 and 4 have enjoyed a fantastic rugby term and wrapped it up with a super House Rugby competition on Thursday afternoon. Despite the cold temperatures, the winter sun was shining brightly, and the boys enjoyed the opportunity to apply their skills and earn precious points for their Houses towards the goal of winning the House treat. It was great to see so much effort and commitment on display and it was especially pleasing to witness the boys from the two year groups mixing together so well and supporting each other through the matches. In what was a closely fought afternoon of rugby, Malvern House came out on top with Clent and Kinver in joint second and Bredon in fourth. This could be a very important result since, going into the afternoon, Bredon had been leading the way in the overall House Cup. The results will be combined with the girls’ House Matches result as well as the Years 5 and 6 results.

U8 & U9 Inter House Hockey

It was a grey and bitterly cold afternoon for the King’s Hawford House Matches, but this didn’t dampen the girls’ spirits.

All games were very close, with all four Houses scoring goals.

There was lots of effective passing of the ball into the scoring D, only for the ball to be cleared quickly away from the attacking team. This allowed the midfielders little time to stop and take a breather and instead required them to take lots of opportunities to progress up the pitch. It was great to see the girls getting stuck in and not being afraid of the ball! There was a great deal of improvement from our first game of hockey at the start of the season and some great skill work shown by both the Year 3 and 4 girls.

All together this was a fantastic afternoon of hockey, with lots of goals scored. Well done girls and to the House Winners: Bredon!

U10 & U11 Inter House Hockey

On Monday, the girls braved the freezing conditions and headed to the astro at Droitwich for their house matches. The pitch was still a little icy on arrival but the games staff remedied this by making the pitches smaller! This prevented any of the girls suffering a tumble. The girls were split up into their House teams and played five– side matches without goalkeepers. This meant that the games were fast-paced, allowing everyone to stay warm. Players were able to shoot from anywhere once the ball was over the halfway line. The teams quickly settled into a rhythm, with plenty of passes completed. It was great to see the Year 5 and 6 girls playing together. The Year 6 girls lead by example and there was some brilliant hockey played. It was an enjoyable afternoon with every girl getting the chance to play in all of the matches. Congratulations to Bredon who were crowned this year’s victors!
