Senior Rowers Shine at Henley Women’s and Marlow Regattas
On Saturday, 22nd June, our senior girls and boys competed at the prestigious Henley Women’s Regatta and Marlow Regatta, showcasing their rowing skills and team spirit.
At Henley Women’s Regatta, held at Henley-on-Thames, the Fifth Form Girls, comprising Jess M, Jas S, Emelia S, and Holly O, and coxed by Ellie N (U6), raced in the Women’s Junior 16 Four. They performed admirably in their time trial but were just off the pace and did not qualify for the side-by-side racing. The Girls Eight, consisting of Emily A, Millie D, Freya D, Issy G, Posie F, Ellie C, Rebecca N, Amelia V, and Ruby I, rowed a great time trial but fell just short of the time needed to qualify for the match-racing of the main event. Despite this, the girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are determined to put that to good use for Henley Royal Regatta and next season.
At Marlow Regatta, held at Dorney Lake, the boys faced time trials in the early morning. The Senior Boys First Eight of Joseph Y, Ollie B, Jude A, Freddie H, Ptolemy N, Tom W, Ben F, Jacob S, and Sam E, raced together for the first time as an amalgamated crew from the Coxed Four and Second Quad of National Schools’ Regatta. They put in a spirited performance, placing 29th in the time trial and securing sixth place in the D-Final. The Boys’ Quad Scull, comprising Josh L, Jack D, Harry W, and Elliott B, competed against 53 other crews in the Junior 18 Quad Sculls event. They performed exceptionally well in the time trial, earning 15th place overall and a spot in the B-Final. The final was an exciting event, with the boys starting strong and maintaining close contests throughout the 2000 metres, finishing in seventh place. Most of the boats finished within a boat’s length. The boys now look forward to Henley Qualification on Friday.
Both the girls and boys displayed remarkable effort and determination, gaining valuable experience and setting their sights on future competitions.
