Informal Concert with a Festive Flavour
There was a seasonal flavour to Tuesday afternoon, as nervous but excited children and a large audience gathered in The Chapel for our Christmas Informal Concerts. An ever-popular event on the KSA Arts Calendar, the traditional end-of-term concert has now grown so much that there are enough items to fill two separate performances comfortably!
Year Two and Year Five started things off in style, with 14 performances that included a wide mix of styles. Traditional Christmas carols such as Jingle Bells rubbed shoulders with a blend of classical and folk music, all finished off with an enthusiastic and accomplished rendition of All I want for Christmas by Brodie and Will (Y5).
After a short break, it was the turn of Year Three, Year Four and Year Six, who continued to delight an audience refreshed by more tea and mince pies with an equally varied programme of music. The line-up for this concert included carols, classical music and pop songs, so there really was something for everyone!
As ever, it was wonderful to welcome a number of first-time performers to the stage, as well as a few more experienced players who were giving their first performance on a new instrument. Special congratulations must go to Pip (piano), Charlotte (voice), Hannah (piano) Beth (voice) Cerys (flute), Hibah (piano) and Luna (piano).
It was lovely to see a number of children perform in small ensembles with their friends. These carefully prepared items had also been suitably choreographed for the occasion and were a huge hit with the audience, especially when they were allowed to join in and sing along!
The last few weeks have been very busy for many of the children, who have been involved in numerous performances as well as, for some, the demands of practical music exams. It was a real joy to see that they have been able to find time for some musical fun alongside all their hard work.
Both events were a real treat and brilliantly showcased the children’s dedication and enthusiasm. What a wonderful way to end the day: well done everyone!
