King's Hawford

29 March

KG Forest School fundraiser

On Friday 23rd March, Kindergarten held a fabulous Forest School fundraising day. All the children were invited to come to school dressed in Forest School colour clothes in order to participate in a full day of Forest School themed fun. The day started early with all of KG being walked out to Forest School in full waterproofs and wellies. They had been encouraged to dress themselves as independently as possible- so it took a little while.

Once at Forest School, the children quickly got involved in an Easter hunt around the wooded area, looking for eggs numbered up to 20. They were rewarded for their hunting efforts with a cake, kindly donated by parents as part of the bake sale. All the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and all had the opportunity to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland environment.

Hawford champions Forest School as a specialised learning approach; that sits within and compliments the wider context of outdoor and woodland education. It is a fun environment in which the children gain a different learning perspective and promotes a holistic learning opportunity.

The fundraising day was hugely successful and we reached the target required to purchase a pull along trailer to transport equipment up to Forest School. A big thank you to the parents who helped make the day successful, with so many wonderful Easter-themed cakes being donated, as well as plants for the garden area.
