King's St Alban's

16 September

Kicking off the new season with impressive skills.

U11A v The Elms

It was a brilliant start to the rugby term for the Year 6 cohort on Wednesday afternoon, when they took on The Elms School. Unfortunately, due to injuries and illness, The Elms could only bring over three boys from Year 6; however we mixed it up and some of the King’s St Alban’s boys helped out and played for The Elms. Peter U demonstrated real strength with ball in hand and good rugby understanding to make some impressive offloads, which led to a number of tries. Ralphie D and Harry B both showed good passing skills and started off a number of the King’s St Alban’s attacking moves. William D was absolutely everywhere on the pitch, getting to nearly every breakdown and showing his brilliant body position and strength when rucking.

This was a great start with lots of positives that the team can take from the game and a few things they can work on and improve on in their games and club in the coming weeks. Well done boys!

U10 A v The Elms

What a fantastic start to the rugby season this was for the Year 5 A team, who played their first game against The Elms School. In a very closely matched opening five minutes, both teams attacked with speed and agility to gain early tries. As the game settled down, King’s St Alban’s started to show their quality in tackling and rucking to enable effective turnovers in the game. Reuben displayed excellent offloading of the ball, Monty was a threat every time he ran with the ball and Rook showed great talent with his fast and energetic sprints, creating try-scoring opportunities.

What was impressive was the King’s St Alban’s defensive line, which moved as a unit, putting pressure on The Elms when they were in possession of the ball. Theo was constantly tackling and helping his team, and so too was Francis, who showed no fear with the ball. Tom, Sam and Joel all had good performances as well. Well done boys!

U10 B v The Elms

The U10 B Team started the season with a strong effort against The Elms at home. Despite conceding scores in the early stages of the game, some fantastic runs by Jack pulled back two well-worked tries. Will was especially impressive, using his speed and footwork to make metres. Otto showed his pace on the wing and great sportsmanship, offering to play for The Elms, who were a man down. Jacob, Humphrey, Rory, Aaron and George all showcased some solid defending, with Arslan standing out as a defensive rock. What was most impressive from the boys was their determination against a physical Elms side. Well done!

U10 Hockey Triangular v Bromsgrove and Hawford
The U10 hockey players started the term with an excellent fixture at Bromsgrove School on Wednesday. We took two Year 5 teams to the fixture, and were particularly pleased with how the girls played. Emily played her first match for King’s St Alban’s and impressed everyone with how she moved the ball forwards. Helena’s athleticism shone through as she moved fast with the ball and Karla showed excellent grit with her tackling and hunger for the ball.
